Jessie Montgomery’s Hymn for Everyone opens a program that explores music’s power to unite, leading to Schubert’s timeless songs in vivid orchestral settings. After intermission, the Philadelphia Choral Arts joins the orchestra for Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 9, where the idea of the hymn finds its ultimate expression in the universal message of the Ode to Joy.
